When Can I Start Having Sex Again After I 've Had My Baby?By Marc Hofkens | Date Submitted: 09/12/05
Category: Life:Womens Issues Once you’ve delivered, you’ll normally be able to resume sexual activity after six weeks, but after everything your body and mind will go through during pregnancy and delivery, it’s reasonable to fear you might not want to have sex for a lot longer than that. (And the first, third, or fourth time you have sex after the baby comes, you may also question whether you really want to ever have it again.) But don’t worry, because, yes, you will eventually resume a normal sex life. If you want to plan ahead, buy some vaginal lubricant. Lubrication will be essential because you are likely to be a bit sore the first few times, and if you’re breastfeeding, the decreased estrogen will cause vaginal dryness. Also, as you might imagine, it’s difficult to feel sexy when you’re covered with spit-up, you’re up at all hours of the night, and your breasts are leaking. An even bigger obstacle, however, may be your baby, especially if he or she is sleeping in the room with you. As if having an extra person in the bedroom isn’t enough of a romantic hindrance, when family and friends offer to watch newborns, they tend to want to do it at your home where all supplies are easily accessible. All this makes resuming your sex life trickier… but not impossible. It may take time, and you may have to get creative, but eventually your sex life should get back on track.
